The Un-Wedding Was Just the Beginning: What Comes Next

The Un-Wedding is being reborn

Writing this blog post is emotional. It marks the end of an era and the beginning of something new… something that feels more like us than ever before.

If you've been part of this journey, first of all: thank you. The Un-Wedding started as a blog, then became a wedding directory, a series of events, a community, and even a print magazine. It’s been a bold, colourful, sometimes chaotic celebration of love on your own terms. And now, it’s evolving.

Because here's the truth: after 10 years, the name "The Un-Wedding" began to feel like a label that didn’t quite fit anymore. Not for me. Not for the couples we champion. Not for the next chapter of what we're building.

So we’re letting go of the name, but not the mission.

Why the Change?

"The Un-Wedding" was never meant to be anti-wedding, and even though we’re often described as ‘alternative’ and have used the term ourselves… we’re not alternative in the way some people might expect us to be.

It’s never been about looking a certain way, or having a certain type of wedding. It was about freeing couples from the pressure to perform or follow traditions that didn’t reflect who they really are. But in recent years, I think it can confuse people. It often requires an explanation. And after a decade of building something that was always meant to evolve, it feels like time to take our own advice.

Its time to Make New Traditions.

So that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Introducing MNT: Make New Traditions

Our new name encompasses what we have always stood for and will continue to. MNT (Make New Traditions) is the next iteration of everything you already know and love about The Un-Wedding… just with a new name that puts our mantra front and centre.

The ethos stays the same: inclusivity, creativity, and non-traditional wedding planning that celebrates you. MNT is your platform for modern love stories, whether you're planning in the UK, Ireland, or anywhere that believes in doing things differently.

What’s Staying

  • The Book of Love Directory is still here, connecting couples with the best independent, inclusive suppliers in the UK – and now, Ireland too.

  • Our live events will continue with a fresh lease of life, welcoming every body to the party.

  • The print magazine is only just getting started. Issue 2 is coming soon.

  • Our community – the lovers, the rebels, the dreamers – you're all coming with us.

What’s Changing

  • A new name: Make New Traditions (MNT)

  • A new website: sleek, stylish, still full of personality

  • More resources for both couples and suppliers

  • A deeper focus on values-led planning, real representation, and joyful rebellion

Come With Us

If you’ve ever felt like traditional wedding culture didn’t speak to you, you’re exactly who we’re here for. Whether you’re planning your day or helping others plan theirs, we want you in our world.

So yes, this is the final blog post under "The Un-Wedding" name. But it's not goodbye – it’s just the next page in the story. And I’m so glad you’re still reading.

Love Forever (and New Traditions),

Melissa + Ben xx
