Wedding Budget: How Much Should You Spend On A Wedding Planner?

Well, this would make paying for stuff a whole lot more fun!

When it comes to wedding planning, couples often ask themselves how much they should spend on a wedding planner. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Every couple’s budget and needs are different, and contrary to popular belief, wedding planners aren’t just for those of you with big budgets!

For couples who don’t have the time or experience to manage all the details of a wedding (I mean, not everyone is a qualified project manager, right?) hiring a wedding planner can be invaluable. From selecting vendors to creating timelines and coordinating events, their expertise will save you time and money in the long run. In many cases, good wedding planners will have networking relationships that you will lack to get the best price on services. However, if your budget is tight or you already have plenty of help available, it may not be necessary for you to hire one at all. I didn’t, and whilst I kind of wish I had, it is 100% possible to do it yourself.

If you do decide you want to hire a wedding planner, the amount you should plan to spend on them can vary significantly. Generally speaking, you should expect to pay 10 - 15% of your overall wedding budget on a wedding planner. It may also be possible to negotiate a package that includes only the services you need and fits your budget.

Before hiring a wedding planner, it’s important to take into consideration your unique circumstances (because no 2 weddings are the same, or at least they shouldn’t be…) and determine if this is something you really need or want. If so, do some research ahead of time to find out what different planners offer and compare rates.

At The Un-Wedding, we understand that everyone’s budget and needs are unique. We believe that couples should never feel pressured into spending more than they can afford on their wedding, but it is good to be aware of what’s available and how much it may cost. So when it comes to hiring a wedding planner - whether you choose to do so or not - make sure you weigh your options carefully and keep an open mind about how much you can spend. After all, this is one of the most important days of your life!
